Glaucoma

One of the leading causes of blindness for people over 60.

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve—the connection between your eye and brain. This damage is often caused by a buildup of fluid in the eye that increases pressure over time.

Because glaucoma typically develops slowly and without early warning signs, regular eye exams are essential to catch it early and prevent vision loss.

Common Symptoms

Glaucoma often goes unnoticed in its early stages. As it progresses, you may experience:

  • Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision
  • Tunnel or narrowed vision
  • Eye pain or redness

Diagnosis & Treatment

During your exam, we check your eye pressure, examine your optic nerve, and use advanced imaging like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to detect early signs of glaucoma.

If glaucoma is detected, treatment may include prescription eye drops, laser therapy, or surgery—depending on the severity. Our goal is to lower eye pressure, protect the optic nerve, and preserve your vision.

At Valley Vision Center, we partner with you in maintaining healthy eyes and clear vision for years to come.
